In the last two months of 2023, I started a collaboration with an artist who does steel installation. We were both looking for a new material to experiment and eventually settled down on white wax.
Wax Crown
Wax is a soft material, rather vulnerable. We happened to commission on a work regarding the Luna New Year of 2024, the year of Dragon.
Dragon is the only animal in the Chinese Animal Zodiacs that doesn't appear in real life. Thus, Dragon often gives the intangibility of royalty, authority, and power.
Our commissioned piece is built upon the metaphorical idea of the dragon. So, We decided to use Wax to make royal accessories such as crowns, tiaras , and etc. to embark a take on the very vulnerability of the idea of 'Power' or ' Possessing Power'.
